EVALUATION OF THE RESULTS OF NADAPONEUROTIC ALLOHERNIOPLASTY USING THE VISUAL-ANALOGUE SCALE
Keywords:
postoperative ventral hernias, polypropylene mesh, visual analog scale of pain.Abstract
Objective: to study in the observed aspect the frequency of postoperative chronic pain and sensations of a foreign body after allohernioplasty using Esfil-heavy and Esfil-light polypropylene endoprostheses.
Materials and Methods: Postoperative control visits were carried out in the first week (for a number of patients in the clinic before discharge), the first month and the 6th month after surgery. The most simple, convenient and widely used in everyday practice scale that assesses the severity of pain is the visual analog pain scale (VAS).
Results: Our study shows that, compared with heavy mesh, light mesh has some advantages in reducing chronic surgical site pain after allohernioplasty. There were no statistically significant differences in other criteria (pain on coughing, on getting up from lying to sitting position), but there was an obvious trend towards fewer patients with pain in the light mesh group than in the heavy mesh group. The use of scales in everyday practice allows us to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment, analyze our own experience and compare it with domestic and foreign colleagues.
Conclusions: The use of a visual analogue scale allows one to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment, analyze one's own experience and compare it with domestic and foreign colleagues.
