Abstract

This article explores the role of the sympathetic and parasympathetic divisions of the autonomic nervous system in the development of metabolic syndrome, as well as their interconnection. There is a distinct mechanism for fat accumulation in the abdominal region, the posterior part of the abdominal cavity, and subcutaneous adipose tissue, as each of these areas is innervated by different parts of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. The process of energy intake and expenditure in the body is regulated by biologically active substances released from the endings of autonomic nerves. From this perspective, fat accumulation in the abdominal or subcutaneous adipose tissue can be seen as the result of complex morphofunctional relationships with the autonomic nervous system. Studying these interconnections is crucial for the prevention and treatment of metabolic syndrome and its components.
