Ҳозирги кунда мавжуд маълумотлар MMП ва TИMП генларидаги полиморфизмлар вирусли инфекциялар, шу жумладан COVID-19 пайтида, миокарддаги яллиғланиш даражаси ва тузилма ўзгаришларга сезиларли таъсир кўрсатиши мумкинлигини кўрсатади. Аммо тадқиқотлар натижалари ҳанузгача зидли бўлиб қолмоқда, бу эса тадқиқот олиб борилган популяциялар, методологиялар ва баҳолаш мезонларидаги фарқлар билан боғлиқ. Бундан ташқари, ўтказилган тадқиқотларнинг аксарияти миокардитдаги яллиғланишнинг умумий жиҳатларини ўрганишга қаратилган бўлиб, MMП ва TИMП генларидаги генетик вариантлар билан боғлиқ аниқ механизмлар етарлича ўрганилмаган.
