Tilning shilliqqavati ko'pincha salbiy omillarning (shu jumladan yatrogenik) doimiy ta'siri tufayli turli xil patologik sharoitlarning rivojlanish joyi bo'lib, unga qarshi har xil turdagi mikroorganizmlar faollashadi. Til shilliq qavatining patologik sharoitlari, bir tomondan, virusning faollashishi, qo'ziqorin va surunkali bacterial infektsiyalar, boshqa tomondan, predispozitsiya qiluvchi omillar (til anomaliyalari va boshqalar) tufayli yuzaga kelishi mumkin. Ma'lumki, aynan tilning orqa yuzasi ko'plab tizimli kasalliklarning (dermatoz, qandli diabet, oshqozon-ichak trakti patologiyasi, qon kasalliklari va boshqalar) birlamchi namoyon bo'lish joyi bo'lib xizmat qiladi.
