LINGUOCULTURAL FEATURES OF ETHNONYMS AND THEIR ROLE IN THE HISTORICAL LINGUISTIC LANDSCAPE (on the example of Alisher Navoi's works)

This article examines the linguocultural features, etymological origins, and place in the historical linguistic worldview of ethnonyms in the works of Alisher Navoiy. A continuous survey of the four-volume “Alisher Navoiy Encyclopedia” identified more than thirty Turkic-Mongolic clan and tribal names (ethnonyms) used by the poet; their etymological basis (color, numeral, occupational, dynastic and totemic) was established, and the names were classified into semantic-thematic groups. The study shows that the etymological meaning of ethnonyms such as Qipchoq, Mangʻit, Qoʻngʻirot, Qiyot, Barlos and Jaloyir directly shapes their linguocultural function in Navoiy's texts - as an image of beauty, a marker of social nobility, and an instrument of historical authenticity. A considerable portion of these ethnonyms survive today as toponyms or local ethnic designations in Qashqadaryo, Surxondaryo and the wider Zarafshon valley, confirming their status as a stable layer of the historical linguistic worldview.
