Abstract

We conducted a retrospective study of 6391 patients with diagnosed ischemic stroke in the period 2015-2019. Patients were evaluated based on demographic data (age, gender, environment); neurological and cardiological examination data; risk factors and the presence of concomitant diseases. As shown by the data, the majority of patients were from rural areas (61% -4201 cases), and the rest from urban areas (39% -2730 cases). Of the risk factors, the most common was high blood pressure, present in approximately 70% of all patients. The most common etiopathogenetic mechanism was cerebral artery thrombosis, which occurred in 86% of cases, followed by cerebral artery embolism in 11%. It has been established that high blood pressure is significantly associated with the risk of developing ischemic stroke. Regarding the etiopathogenetic mechanism, cerebral artery thrombosis was present in most cases of our study.
