COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF MORPHO-FUNCTIONAL CHANGES IN THE ORAL MUCOSA WHEN USING VARIOUS REMOVABLE PROTESES

Abstract

This work is devoted to assessing the morphofunctional changes in the oral mucosa when using various types of removable dentures. Removable prosthetics is a common method for restoring chewing function and aesthetics in patients with partial or complete adentia. However, wearing removable structures has a direct mechanical and microbiological effect on the mucous membrane, which can lead to inflammatory reactions, impaired microcirculation, epithelial thinning, and other changes. The study included 90 patients who were made: acrylic-based plate prostheses, nylon prostheses, and prostheses made from innovative flexible polymers. The condition of the mucous membrane was assessed clinically, as well as morphometrically and histologically - before and 6 months after the start of prosthetics. The obtained results showed the lowest severity of inflammatory changes in patients using new-generation flexible prostheses. The research findings emphasize the necessity of selecting prosthetic material considering biocompatibility and minimal traumatic impact. The presented data can be useful for improving the effectiveness of orthopedic treatment and preventing oral mucosa diseases.
