Abstract

This pathology is associated with intrauterine disruption of the anlage of the 1st and 2nd branchial arches. The development of anomalies in newborns is associated with infections suffered by the pregnant woman (rubella, cytomegalovirus, influenza, chicken pox), with her taking medications that have a teratogenic effect, and with exposure to radioactive radiation. Obtaining stable results of correction of congenital atresia of the external auditory canal remains a challenge in otology. Complications such as stenosis, drainage, and hearing loss can be minimized by adhering to well-established concepts and techniques.
