TOPONYMIC CONCEPT IN LINGUISTICS AND ITS MAIN CHARACTERISTICS

This article provides a comprehensive analysis of the cognitive-linguistic interpretation of toponyms, the content and structure of the toponymic concept, its linguocultural features, associative field, semantic periphery, and its role in shaping national and cultural identity. It is demonstrated that toponyms are not only means of naming geographical objects but also encoded forms of historical memory, cultural heritage, mental stereotypes, and psychocognitive representations. The article examines in detail the core–periphery model of the toponymic concept, the elements of its conceptual field, its etymological layers, mental associations in collective consciousness, and the methods of linguocultural interpretation.
