ABOUT THE ROLE OF FAIRY TALES AS A GENRE IN FOLKLORE

This article discusses the role of the fairy tale genre in folklore, its peculiarities and scientific research in this domain. In particular, different scientific approaches to the genre of fairy tales in different historical periods are analyzed. The seventeenth and nineteenth centuries are marked by the emergence and development of views on their genesis, along with the collection and publication of fairy tales in folklore. In the twentieth century, especially, after the publication of Russian folklorist V. Propp’s book Morphology of the Folktale, it is the busiest period of the structural approach to the study of fairy tale text. During this period, scientists developed various scientific theories based on Propp's theory.
