PRAGMATICS OF EXPRESSIVE FORMS (Analytical view into exclamatory sentences in English)

The paper aims to discuss some of the most well-known investigations on the syntax and pragmatics of the expressive types of sentences – exclamatory forms in English. The grammatical analysis of exclamatory sentences is given along with the insight into the importance of pragmatic approach. Differences between various terms used to denote such constructions are shed light on, and the classification of them is given. Based on the analysis through examples from different modes of discourse, it has been inferred that illocution of exclamatory sentences is context dependent. It has
been concluded that from the perspective of Speech Act Theory, the pragmatic analysis of expressiveexclamatory sentences needs an in – depth development as they cover every angle of it.
