THE SIGNIFICANCE OF HOUSE FOCUSING IN THE USE AND REFERENCE OF KINSHIP TERMS

"家 ie" house is one of the main concepts in the Japanese language consciousness and it is of great importance in the use of kinship terms. This article investigates the using and addressing the Japanese kinship terms. Both the allocentric usage of kinship names from the perspective of the smallest family member and the use of kinship references from the perspective of the house are taken into consideration. When using kinship names, words are selected based on who is being addressed and the intended recipient's position in the household. Kinship names are employed in fairy tales with three main points of focus: the house, the reader, and the narrator. It is found that, even though they do not belong to the same family, the key requirement in this situation is that relatives reside in the same home.
