PRONOUNS AND CONJUNCTIONS EXPRESSING THE SEMANTICS OF CONCESSION IN ENGLISH
Keywords:
indefinite pronouns, interrogative pronouns, interrogative adverbs, adversative conjunctions, subordinating conjunctions, explicit, implicit, valencyAbstract
Pronouns and conjunctions with concessive semantics in English belong to the morphological level of this language. More precisely, concession is explicitly and implicitly expressed with the help of indefinite, interrogative pronouns and adverbs, adversative and subordinating conjunctions. This semantics is manifested in specific linguistic and extralinguistic contexts as part of communicative units related to the syntactic level of the English language, that is, simple and complex syntactic constructions. The structural, semantic-stylistic and valence aspects of such means are considered below.
