ENTRY OF RUSSIAN BANKS INTO TURKESTAN (END OF THE 19TH – BEGINNING OF THE 20TH CENTURY)

The article deals with the process of introduction of Russian banks in the Turkestan region in the late XIX and early XX centuries. The role of financial institutions in the development of industry and agriculture, in particular cotton, as well as in the construction of railways is studied. The development of cotton in the krai led to the development of industry. Since transporting raw cotton was not economically feasible, cotton ginning factories began to appear in the Turkestan region, which became the main industry in the krai. Then trade began to develop, the Turkestan region was included in the Russian trade network, where cotton exports and imports of goods from Russia were increased. The paper analyses sources that highlight the results of banking activities in the region
