FROM THE HISTORY OF MILITARY RELATIONS ACTIVITY OF THE REPRESENTATIVES OF THE MANGIT DYNASTY

Abstract

In this article, the Merv oasis was a disputed territory between the Bukhara and Khiva khanates at the beginning of the 19th century. At that time, the Bukhara emirate was in a struggle with the Kokand Khanate for the possessions of Uratepa and Khujand. By the beginning of the 19th century, the Bukhara emirate had captured Jizzakh, and the Kokand Khanate had captured Khujand. The main reason why the cities of Uratepa and Khujand became disputed territories between the khanates can be explained as follows. In particular, the city of Uratepa and its surroundings were a very strong geographical and strategic area, and if the emirate had captured Uratepa, the emir would have had the opportunity to keep the southern borders of the Kokand Khanate, especially the Khujand possessions, under its influence. The Kokand Khanate, in turn, had kept the Khujand possessions under its influence, which constantly threatened the territory of Jizzakh, which was occupied by the Bukhara emir. Therefore, it is said that the city of Urktepe was always a disputed territory between the two khanates, sometimes under the control of one khanate and sometimes under the control of the other.
