PROBLEMS OF COMBATING RELIGIOUS FUNDAMENTALISM AND EXTREMISM

The article analyzes the concept, essence, content and threat of religious fundamentalism and extremism, their manifestations and causes in our country, changes in the methods of combating them and their democratic content.
After the acquisition of independence of Uzbekistan, the interest of our people in national and spiritual origins has increased, which has affected the strengthening of the role and importance of religious values in public life. The processes of the religious awakening of the people contributed to the strengthening of Islam, and at the same time, forces appeared that sought to use it for narrow selfish purposes. A struggle began with the aim of overthrowing the secular state, forcibly changing the constitutional order, for the creation of an Islamic state. As a result of the reasonable and decisive policy pursued by our government, the destructive forces did not achieve their goal.
The religious policy pursued in our country serves to strengthen the constitutional order, introduce the ideas of tolerance into society and maintain the consent of citizens.
