THE TASHKENT EARTHQUAKE IN 1966

The article deals with the events that took place after April 1966, when the Tashkent earthquake occurred, one of the most significant events in the history of Uzbekistan during the Soviet period. The positive and negative consequences of the natural disaster are analyzed, as well as the process of rebuilding Tashkent and the assistance provided by other republics during such a difficult period. Some of the contradictions that arose during the collision of two different cultures of the East and West, as well as different opinions about the degree of destruction that occurred as a result of the earthquake, are also considered.
