ON THE ETYMOLOGY OF CERTAIN WORDS IN THE LEXICON OF KHOREZM FOLK SONGS

This article analyzes the etymology of the word yap, which frequently appears in Khorezm folk songs. The author presents various linguistic perspectives on this lexeme and compares scholarly approaches that trace its origin either to the ancient Khorezmian language or to the common Turkic verbal root yap- (“to cover, to build”). The article also explores the relationship between language and culture in oral folklore, highlighting how linguistic and cultural layers, dialects, and regional speech reflect a people’s historical and cultural consciousness. It offers a scholarly approach to the preservation of cultural heritage through the lexicon of folk songs.
