SETTLEMENT PATTERNS OF THE POPULATION OF THE ANCIENT KHOREZM OASIS

Based on archaeological data, the article analyzes the history of settlement of the Khorezm oasis population from the Neolithic to the Early Iron Age. The territorial distribution of sites of the Kelteminar, Suyargan, Tazabagyab and Amirabad cultures, dwelling types and features of the cultural layer are examined, and sedentary and seasonal nomadic forms of settlement are identified. It is shown that in the Bronze Age mainly the Akchadarya basin was developed, and the boundaries of inhabited areas constantly changed depending on the seasonal nature of economic activities. It is argued that by the 6th–5th centuries BC the natural boundaries of the developed lands of the oasis had formed, while from the Early Iron Age the forms of settlement were determined by new socio-economic factors.
