The article discusses a brief long historical formation of the institution of mediation, the stages of its emergence in the history of the ancient world, the need for development, the emergence of a need, as well as the first practices of mediation in the Middle Ages and modern times. In addition, briefly about the development of mediation in its modern form in the United States and European countries. The current state of legislation in the field of relations in our country and the reforms carried out are also considered.
