ABSTRACT

The article shows the best features of Irving‘s prose of his time through his humorous comic works. An illogical, absurd situation, ridiculous hyperbole nonsense, unexpected, bold comparison, the construction of a cunning and humorous phrase - all this makes the reader smile with unprecedented pleasure or laugh out loud. Injustices in American life are not only focused on the destruction of the material and spiritual culture of the Indians, but also focus on describing all the evils of white civilization, incurable diseases and immoral actions. They condemn the atrocities against women, the elderly and children, and the barbaric extermination of Hindu tribes. This article examines how the heroes of the works embody the ideals of patriotism and freedom.
