Abstract

The article conducts a comparative-typological study of Erkin Vohidov's commentaries on five of Alisher Navoi's ghazals, featured in the "G'azal sehri" (The Magic of the Ghazal) section of his book "So'z latofati" (The Grace of the Word). The primary objective is not to retell the content of the ghazals, but rather to identify the principles by which Vohidov perceives and interprets Navoi's poetics. The analysis reveals that the poet-commentator pays special attention to the polysemy of words, the emotional weight of artistic imagery, the complex states of the human psyche, and the classical text's potential to engage in a dialogue with the modern reader. In the commentary "Shoir qalbining fig'oni" (The Wail of the Poet's Soul), themes of suffering, injustice, and the need for freedom are prominent; meanwhile, in the commentary on "Qaro ko'zim" (My Black-Eyed One), the polysemy of the word "mardum," love, loyalty, and poetic wordplay take precedence. The integrated system of the five commentaries demonstrates that Vohidov interprets the figure of Navoi not merely as a historical classical poet, but as a living poetic school that converses with the spiritual world of modern individuals.
