Herpesvirus infections represent a group of widespread diseases caused by viruses of the Herpesviridae family, which are characterized by high neurotropism and the ability to persist in the human body. Of particular clinical significance are neurotropic lesions in children caused by such family representatives as herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2 (HSV-1, HSV-2), varicella-zoster virus (VZV), cytomegalovirus (CMV), Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), and human herpesvirus type 6 (HHV-6).
