MAKHALLA IN UZBEKISTAN: A HISTORICAL INSTITUTE OF LOCAL SELF-GOVERNMENT AND CONTEMPORARY SOCIO-ECONOMIC TRANSFORMATION

Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of the role of makhallas in Uzbekistan as a unique institution of self-government and a cultural center that plays an important role in the social, economic and political life of the country. The study examines the historical aspects of the activities of makhallas, their role in preserving national traditions and spiritual values, and modern legislative reforms of this institution. In recent years, amendments have been made to important legislation in Uzbekistan, such as the laws “On Local Government and Administration Bodies” and “On Elections of Mahalla Chairmen”, and new infrastructure facilities such as “Makhalla Centers” have been built. Attention is also being paid to social support for the population, the development of entrepreneurship and education through initiatives aimed at supporting youth and local entrepreneurs. The article analyzes the results of these reforms and their impact on the development of civil society in our country, as well as the role of the "Mahalla" Foundation in supporting local government bodies.
