SCIENTIFIC-THEORETICAL APPROACHES TO UNDERSTANDING THE PHENOMENON OF «NATION»

The article examines conflicts of identity and ethnonational values in the context of integration processes, the activation of the ethnic factor as a result of the escalation of interethnic relations, as well as the formation of new scientific and theoretical approaches to understanding the essence of this phenomenon. Attempts to restore customs and traditions, from the search for the «spirit of the people», the main reason for the desire to restore national statehood is the processes of globalization, and the growing integration, unification of cultures and diffusion of values are associated with the importance of ethno-national concepts as a scientific paradigm in social and humanitarian sciences. To date, no classical theory has been created that would serve as a permanent, absolutely «consistent» one. The use of scientific methods in studying the essence of the «nation» phenomenon and the mechanisms of strengthening national identification processes does not always yield sufficient results and requires new paradigmatic approaches.
