ABSTRACT
This article discusses the characteristics of verbal communication, the functions of speech and its means of expression. Communication is one of the main forms of human social activity. In the broadest meaning of the word, this term refers to any interaction, and in the narrow one, the term refers to the conscious and purposeful transmission of messages between people who are participants in communication. Since ancient times, verbal communication has been the main way of transmitting messages and information, and its main tool is speech. Professional speaking skills have been and are an important part of the success of many professional fields. Speech is not only a collection of transmitted information, but it can also show our attitude towards a certain event or interlocutor. In ancient times, teaching rhetoric and dialogue techniques became compulsory. Since then, verbal communication has been a key element of human society.
