Abstract

The article examines the problem of domestic violence in the European Union (EU) countries, its scope, consequences and measures to combat it. Based on statistical data and analytical reports, the increase in cases of violence, especially in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, is highlighted. International and regional legal instruments, such as the Istanbul Convention and EU directives, measures aimed at harmonizing legislation, protecting the rights of victims and criminalizing gender-based violence are highlighted. The article examines the main difficulties, including cultural and social barriers, lack of funding and differences in approaches between EU countries. The significant efforts of the EU, including the creation of infrastructure to support victims, the active participation of non-governmental organizations and regular monitoring of the implementation of obligations, are highlighted. The author emphasizes the need for a complex approach, which includes legislative measures, educational initiatives and active participation of society. In conclusion, it is noted that the fight against domestic violence requires further improvement of measures at the international, national and societal levels to effectively protect the rights of victims and prevent violence.
