INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS OF THE DEFENSE FUNCTION IN ENSURING JUSTICE

This article provides a comprehensive analysis of international standards for the defense function in the context of ensuring fair justice. The author examines key international legal instruments, such as the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers. Special attention is paid to the implementation of these norms into the national legislation of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The work identifies existing gaps in the legal regulation of the status of the defense counsel and proposes specific recommendations for improving the Criminal Procedure Code aimed at strengthening the guarantees of the independence of lawyers and ensuring equality of arms.
