A HISTORICAL AND RETROSPECTIVE ANALYSIS OF CHARITABLE PRACTICES IN UZBEKISTAN

This article provides a retrospective analysis of the formation and evolution of charitable practices in Uzbekistan. The study traces the roots of the phenomenon of philanthropy, starting from the ideas of benevolence in the “Avesta” and their subsequent consolidation as core Islamic values through the institutions of zakat, sadaqah, and waqf as outlined in the Qurani Karim. The paper explores the influence of sufism and its humanitarian principles specifically the concepts of selflessness and altruistic aid on the social fabric of society. Furthermore, it analyzes the centralized social welfare system established during the era of Amir Temur, as well as the extensive philanthropic activities of Alisher Navoiy, whose contributions to the construction of madrasas, hospitals, and rabats serve as pinnacle examples of the waqf system. The author argues that this rich spiritual heritage of ancestors serves as a vital foundation for the systematic development of a modern culture of charity in contemporary Uzbekistan.
