THE CONCEPT AND SOCIAL DANGER OF CRIMES RELATED TO THE ILLEGAL HANDLING OF POTENT OR TOXIC SUBSTANCES

This article discusses the concept of crimes related to the illegal handling of potent or toxic substances and their social danger. These crimes pose a serious threat not only to individuals but also to society as a whole. Therefore, the essence of such crimes, their social danger, and the importance of legal measures to combat them are thoroughly addressed. The article begins with definitions of potent and toxic substances and an analysis of their harmful effects on the human body. It is noted that improper use of these substances can cause physiological, psychological, and cognitive changes, and in some cases, lead to death. Despite being produced for medical purposes, the uncontrolled use of such substances poses a significant threat to health and public safety. The article, based on the views of various scientists and specialists, highlights the health effects and the necessity of legal regulation of these substances. It emphasizes the importance of improving legislation and raising public awareness to combat crimes related to their illegal circulation. Legal practice analysis reveals common unlawful uses of such substances: 1) as psychoactive substances for non-medical use; 2) as components in various food-based biologically active supplements; 3) as anabolic steroids; 4) for the production of narcotic and psychotropic substances; 5) to commit other crimes (by affecting the victim’s health).
